GUA-Papers of Geology
Tot 1991 verschenen 29 GUA-papers of geology, waarvan 21 proefschriften van de in die jaren aan de UVA in de geologie gepromoveerden, vijf van gepromoveerden van elders en drie ‘speciale’ thematische nummers. Daaruit blijkt dat het tijdschrift in een grote behoefte voorzag met name wat betreft de uitgave van proefschriften. Ook in financieel opzicht werd het tijdschrift een succes dankzij het kundige beleid van het stichtingsbestuur dat er in slaagde hoge kortingen te bedingen op de drukkosten en wel in de vorm van tegoeden op te laten drukken pagina’s.
Vermelding dient het vele werk dat Jan Werner[1968] als secretaris van de GUA heeft verricht.
Jan Werner werd door de introductie van het medewerkerschap van assistent, ter ondersteuning van de museum directeur Mac Gillavry, een medewerker die zijn werkzaamheden in belangrijke mate vond in de administratie en opslag van de gesteente collecties die door studenten en promovendi jaarlijks werden overgedragen ter conservering. In feite was Mac Gillavry alleen pro forma directeur van het Geologisch Museum. Jan was een altijd rustig persoon, een uitmuntend administrator, die zijn capaciteiten inzette op velerlei vlakken. Waar andere medewerkers het onderzoek verkozen, zocht Jan zijn weg in de niche die daardoor geboden werd. Jarenlang vervulde hij bestuurlijke functies binnen de subfaculteit en regelde hij alle zaken met betrekking tot de Geologisch Uitgave Amsterdam.
